Meet Denise Woods!

OVER THE HILL YOGA?

I tried different online and YouTube yoga classes as a way to feel a little more calm and less anxious during the Spring of 2020.  And somehow I found Over the Hill Yoga - a true godsend.  Being 67, I just didn't relate to the young 20-30 year olds teaching most of the other online classes.  I've never been flexible or athletic, but seeing people closer to my age doing the yoga poses at least showed me what was in the realm of possibility

THANK YOU DENISE FOR SHARING!

Denise's favorite pose is TREE Pose

We have a very small dairy farm and I want to be comfortable around the cows - flexibility and balance is really important.  We also make cheese twice a week, which requires many hours of standing - Tree Pose is something I can do for a few minutes here and there during those long days.

Is there something that you've learned on Over the Hill that was useful?

One really valuable bit of information that Mia gave in one of the first videos I watched was that there are THREE different sizes of yoga blocks!  I easily found and ordered the the largest (about 12 by 4.5") size online - they are the BEST - they make me feel stable enough to attempt many poses that were out of the question before.  Also, I would suggest trying to find a yoga mat with stripes running the long way.  That visual cue to getting my feet lined up is a great help to keep me more in line and stop from toppling over (sometimes)!

WHAT KEEPS YOU BUSY AND INSPIRED THESE DAYS?

What keeps me busy these days is making and tending to the cheese we age all year long in our aging room.  I have begun experimenting with washing some cheese in local beer and hard cider.  I also starting vegetable gardening again after many years.  I began baking bread two or three times a week to share last year (that happens when you can only get flour delivered in 25 pound sacks) and still bake a lot.  We have a few laying hens as well.

OBSESSIONS?

I am totally hooked on the mysteries written by Louise Penny and try to ration myself to one a month.  I also like to read cookbooks like novels.  Buying cookbooks, old and new (love a WWII rationing cookbook!) is an out of control habit, along with too much coffee.
